When you think of cosmetic injections, what word comes to mind? If it was Botox–no surprises there since it has been on the scene for over 10 years, making it the O.G. injectable that has a name interchangeable with the category itself. Recently, Jeuveau entered the scene in 2019, so the million-dollar question is, is Jeuveau better than Botox? We’ll get to that; let’s first dive into how they work!

How does Jeuveau work?

The most common procedure in the United States involves Botulinum toxin type A. This neuromodulator makes up our discussed cosmetic injectables. It is injected in small doses into muscles to paralyze the muscular function that creates visible fine lines. The results provide a temporary yet effective improvement in the look of moderate to severe wrinkles. Jeuveau is the 4th form of botulinum toxin type A introduced in 2019. Botox was first introduced in 2002, then Dysport in 2009, and Xeomin in 2011. Jeuveau stands out by being the first toxin to be formulated with the same 900 kDa molecular weight and similar neurotoxin formula as Botox. The similar chemical makeup makes Jeuveau the most similar to the outcomes of Botox.

Similarities of Botox and Jeauveau:

  • Jeuveau and Botox injections take about 15 minutes to perform
  • Full results are visible in about 7 days
  • Results last 3 to 4 months on average
  • Rare side effects of Jeuveau are identical to Botox: muscle weakness, blurred vision, skin drooping. No serious adverse effects were reported during clinical trials.

So, What is Better – Botox or Jeuveux?

So, the truth is, Botox and Jeuvuex are equally effective! There have been clinical trials comparing Jeuveau to Botox, and they found equal efficacy between both neuromodulators.

The brand recognition of Botox is one reason why some people may choose Botox over others. But, truth be told, product choice between Botox and Jeuveau likely has less of an impact than you may think.

One important aspect to consider is the experience of your injector. The depth, location, and dose are important factors in a successful Botox or Jeuveau treatment. In other words, working with an experienced injector that takes the time to evaluate for face structure, muscle strength, and overall anatomy is essential.

The last consideration is price. Botox and Jeuveau may be priced the same, however, if one is going to be more expensive than the other, it is likely Botox. Check with your injector to compare prices between Botox and Jeuveau as each clinic is different.
