GLP-1 medication, prescribed and managed here
GLP-1 medications act on appetite, on how quickly the stomach empties and on how the body handles blood sugar. Onyx prescribes them, monitors them and adjusts them, with your lab work and the rest of your medications in view. Semaglutide and tirzepatide are the two used most often for weight, and each has a full page here.
Semaglutide
The GLP-1 most people have already heard of. It is the molecule behind Ozempic, which is approved for type 2 diabetes rather than for weight loss. What we prescribe here is compounded semaglutide, as a once-weekly injection.

Tirzepatide
The dual GLP-1 and GIP medication used in Mounjaro and Zepbound. At Onyx, tirzepatide is available as a compounded medication.

Dosing, titration and side effects

Your first visit
Meet with a licensed naturopathic doctor for an in-depth consultation covering your medical history, medications, previous weight-loss attempts, symptoms, lifestyle, and goals.

If laboratory testing is appropriate, your doctor orders the panels relevant to your individual history. Recent results may be reviewed and reused when clinically appropriate.

Your treatment plan
Your plan may combine nutrition, lifestyle strategies, exercise and muscle-preservation goals, and prescription medication when appropriate. If you have other health concerns you would like to address, a more comprehensive consultation is available separately.

Follow-up and adjustment
Your doctor monitors how you are responding and adjusts treatment as needed. Medication, nutrition, testing, and other parts of the plan can change as your health changes.

What does it cost, and does insurance cover it?
Onyx is self-pay, and we believe in being transparent about what to expect. We provide clear pricing for medications and explain any other costs before treatment begins, so there are no surprises or hidden fees.

The visit
A 30-minute first consultation for weight loss, followed by shorter follow-ups while you are in the program. A deposit secures your first appointment. If you have other health concerns, you can also choose a full NP consultation. HSA and FSA funds work for most of what we do, and we accept cards for self-pay.

The lab work
We order relevant metabolic labs, such as HbA1c, insulin, and lipids, along with other testing when appropriate. Lab work can often be billed to insurance, or you can choose self-pay. Recent results may also be used when clinically appropriate.

The medication
Medication is billed by us, not by a pharmacy. We work with a small number of vetted compounding pharmacies, and the price depends on your medication and dose. We provide the medication cost before anything is ordered, so you know what to expect.

Medical Weight Loss
Is this a GLP-1 program or a weight loss program?
It is a medically supervised weight management program, and GLP-1 medication is one of the tools in it. Patients who qualify for a GLP-1 are prescribed one and their doctor manages it. Others are not, because the thing holding their weight in place turns out to be a thyroid, insulin or hormone problem that is treated directly.
Can I get semaglutide or tirzepatide at Onyx?
Yes. Both are prescribed here, after a first visit and the lab work that goes with it. Which one, and whether a GLP-1 is the right call for you at all, is decided with your doctor once the results are back. If you would rather start without medication, say so at the first visit and the plan is built that way.
Which GLP-1 medication would I be prescribed?
That is decided at the visit, and it depends on your health history, what you have already tried, tolerance, your other medications, and what you are able to stay on. The medications we offer for weight management include semaglutide, tirzepatide, and retatrutide. Each has different considerations, and your doctor will help determine which option is appropriate for you.
Do you take insurance, and what does the program cost?
Our weight-loss program is self-pay. While some insurance plans may cover FDA-approved GLP-1 medications when filled through a regular pharmacy and specific coverage criteria are met, we do not typically pursue insurance coverage because of the authorization process and administrative requirements. Your cost includes the visit, any lab work, and your medication. We provide clear pricing so you know what to expect before treatment begins. HSA and FSA funds may be used for eligible expenses, and we accept cards.
I am already taking a GLP-1 from another clinic. Can I move my care here?
Yes, and it is one of the more common reasons people book. Bring the medication, your current dose and any recent lab work. Your doctor reviews where you are, orders whatever your history calls for, and decides with you whether to continue as you are, adjust the dose, or change the approach.
How soon will I notice a change?
It depends on what the panels find and what is being treated, and any clinic that promises a date before seeing your results is guessing. What we can say is that most patients report a significant difference in the first 4 to 12 weeks. Some drivers respond quickly once they are identified. Others are slower, and a few are managed rather than resolved. You will get a realistic expectation at the results visit, not before it.
What happens if I stop the medication?
Appetite generally returns, and some people regain weight after stopping medication. That is why long-term success is a priority at Onyx. We help you build lasting nutrition and lifestyle changes while you are taking medication, so healthy habits become part of your routine rather than relying on medication alone. Yes. Onyx sees weight patients by telemedicine nationwide, with lab draws done at a laboratory near you and results reviewed with your doctor on the call.
