Joint Injections

Joint Injections
Joint injections are the ideal solution for joint pain, joint injury, or chronic muscle pain. With almost no downtime, you can get back to doing the activities you love without experiencing chronic pain, joint instability, or muscle weakness. Unlike cortisone injections which ultimately cause further damage and breakdown of the joint, these joint injections stimulate your body to repair, heal, and strengthen the joint, ligaments, and supportive tissue.

Prolotherapy injections are a type of reparative joint injection therapy. This means, the injections stimulate healing and rebuilding in a damaged joint. It involves a solution of dextrose (a sugar), an anesthetic, and other compounds such as growth factors and B12 which are injected into the area of concern. This creates an inflammatory cascade that then causes the tissue in the area to repair, including ligaments and tendons. This joint injection treatment can be used for many types of musculoskeletal conditions as well as improve pain, stiffness, and function in the joints.

These joint injections are for more advanced injuries or joint degeneration. This therapy harnesses growth factors from your own body, and they are injected directly into the joint. Here, they stimulate the repair of damaged tissues. These joint injections can help your body repair damaged tendons, ligaments, muscles, and joints. For many people, these injections help them regain their range of motion, restore strength and functionality of the joint, and can prevent some people from needing surgery and pain medications

Trigger Point Injections

Trigger point injections are small injections of a dextrose solution into areas of muscle pain. They are effective for relaxing contracted muscles and areas of myofascial adhesions, sometimes referred to as ‘knots’ in numerous places in the body. The injection provides a direct infusion of energy into the muscle and nerve bundle, which allows the area to relax.

What to Expect
1 Consultation
Your initial visit will begin with a comprehensive evaluation of your area of pain. You and the Naturopathic Doctor will talk about your symptoms, past medical history, & injury history (if applicable) . The goal of the initial assessment is to determine both the underlying cause and the severity of your joint or muscle concern.
2 Assessment
Next, the doctor will perform any necessary physical examinations as well a palpate the area of concern. If labs or imaging are required, he/she will order them for you. At this point, the doctor will know if you are a good candidate for injections and if so, which type.
3 Treatment
Lastly, the doctor will perform the injection therapy. Most injections take 10-15 minutes in total to complete after the consultation & assessment is complete. The doctor will then advise you of any aftercare and/or other treatments they recommend. Most joint injection treatments are most successful when performed in a series.
